The Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI)
is by name, content and operation, the
premier maritime educational institution
of choice for higher learning training,
research and consultancy in the
Western Hemisphere.
Its programme offerings are designed to
serve both immediate and projected
market demands; they are therefore not
only reactive, but proactive. The
diversification of societal needs has
meant that the Institute focuses not only
on direct maritime demands but on the
needs of other sectors, locally, regionally
and internationally.
The Institute prepares students at the
undergraduate and graduate levels for
courses within and outside of the strictly
maritime industry. Education provided is
both theoretical and practical, enhancing
thereby the students’ ability to use
acquired information, reason clearly,
think critically, communicate effectively
and apply knowledge to the solution of
problems in the maritime and other fields.
The CMI enjoys the elite status of being
the only International Maritime
Organisation (IMO) approved maritime
and training institution in the English
Speaking Caribbean. On March 18,
2010, the Institute was conferred with
the coveted International Standards
Organization (ISO) 9001:2008
certification from the prestigious World
renowned Lloyd’s Register Quality
Assurance Inc. This is an international
stamp of approval and recognition of
excellence in delivery and administration
of the Institute’s programmes in the
Standards of Training, Certification and
Watch Keeping (STCW) 95,
International Maritime Organization
(IMO) courses and other academic
offerings.
