World Maritime Day

World Maritime Day is celebrated each year to focus attention on the
importance of shipping safety, maritime security and the marine environment,
and to draw attention to an aspect of the work of the United Nations
International Maritime Organization (I.M.O.).

While the day is usually observed in the last week of September, the exact
date is left to individual governments.

The theme for World Maritime Day 2008, as approved by the Council and
endorsed by the Assembly, is "IMO: 60 years in the service of shipping" and
was chosen as an appropriate way in which to celebrate the 60th anniversary
of the adoption of the IMO Convention (1948) and the 50th anniversary of its
entry into force (1958). The celebrations will coincide with the 100th session of
the Council, which will be held from 16 to 20 June 2008.

On this significant occasion, let us the membership of P.M.A.C. resolve to
continue our efforts to strive for excellence and the improvement of our
industry, locally, regionally and internationally.

"There is only one body of water on our planet Earth, constantly
traveling from one river to one lake to one ocean .... The sea is a
bonus for us all, soothing climates, washing beaches, feeding
animals and people, connecting nations together, pregnant with
resources of all kinds, but still sensitive and vulnerable."
