Vieux Fort is located at the South end of
the island.
The port is contained within Vieux Fort
Bay it is a well sheltered anchorage and
port which serves the town of Vieux Fort,
standing at the head of the bay.
There is a new container terminal (with
associated storage area) and a Ro-Ro
facility available.

Where possible, Cargo Manifests and
Stowage Plans should be forwarded, by
fax or email, ahead of the vessel's
arrival to the vessel's agent.
Port radio, established in Cape Moule a
Chique Lighthouse, is manned day and
night. Vessels are not to be brought
within 3.5nm of the port before radio
contact has been established.
VHF: Ch 06 and 16. MF 2,182kHz.
- Vessel cleared by Health Office on
arrival.
- Vessels should not be brought
within 100m of any of the wharves
until pratique has been granted by
the pilot. Other port officials board
after a vessel has been berthed.
Customs clearance can be obtained
between 0800-1600hrs, overtime can be
requested.
Indicate to vessel on which side the pilot
will board.
Mandatory to fly:
1. Flag of country of registry.
2. National flag.
3. "Q" flag for pratique.
NOR to be tendered as soon as possible
after arrival.
Vessels should not be brought within 3.5
nm of the port without first establishing
radio contact with Port Control, who will
provide entry and berthing instructions.
From Mathurin Point Lat 13° 42’ 34”N
Long 60° 57’ 30” W hence in the true
direction of 319° T for 1.43 miles to
Georgie Point Lat 13° 43’ 39” N Long
60° 58’ 27” W , thence along the
foreshore at the average high water
mark to Battery point, thence to Noir
Point and thence to Mathurin Point being
the area that includes all waters and
ocean bed up to the average high water
mark of Vieux Fort Harbour and Marine
works and upland vested in the Crown
for Port use lying within the defined limits
so described.
The least charted depth in the approach
to the main berths is 10.7m.
- From the vicinity of 13°45.0'N 061°
10.0'W, the approach to Vieux Fort
Bay leads ESE, passing (with
positions from Mathurin Point):
- SSW of Gros Piton Point (9.0nm
NW).
- Then SSW of a spit, with a least
depth of 5.5m over it, which
extends approx 0.5nm S from the E
end of Balembouche Rocks (4.75
nm WNW). When there is any swell
the sea usually breaks on these
rocks, which extend approx 0.3nm
offshore. Maintaining a distance of
1nm off the coast keeps outside the
20m depth contour.
- Then SSW of Laborie Reefs (3.75
nm NW) which extend approx 0.4
nm offshore to the W of Laborie
Bay. The sea breaks heavily on
these reefs except in calm weather.
- Initial position is 1.75nm WSW of
Mathurin Point.
- Leading Lights: Front light (mast,
elevation 8.0m) (0.5nm NE of
Mathurin Point) situated near the
head of the jetty.
- Rear light (red diamond on metal
column, elevation 20m) (0.28nm
from the front light).
- The alignment (060°) of these lights
leads towards the jetty in a least
depth of 10.7m, passing (with
positions from the front light):
- SSE of an obstruction (the
existence of which is doubtful) (0.58
nm WSW), then:
- Close SSE of a depth of 7.5m (0.48
nm WSW) situated near the SE
extremity of the shore bank and:
- NNW of Mathurin Point on which
stands Mathurin Point Light.
- Compulsory for vessels over
100GT, pilots only available during
daylight hours.
- Notify pilots of ETA 6 hours prior to
arrival.
- Pilots board approx 1.75nm off
Mathurin Point (13°42.0'N 060°
58.0'W).
- Anchorage may be obtained to the
NW of the prohibited anchorage
area.
- Prohibited anchorage area extends
0.7nm WNW of Mathurin Point and
1.0nm SW of the town.
Range 0.3m.

Prevailing winds: Easterly.
The rainy season is June-November.
The two leading lights line up to a true
bearing of 59.5° entering the harbour
and reciprocally 239° leaving the
harbour. The lights are coloured red with
a visible range of 5 miles. Their day
marks are orange triangles, the forward
triangle apex up and the rear triangle
apex down.

Castries.

- The Container Terminal has length
of 182m, depth 10.7m.
- A single jetty, at the S end of the
Container Terminal, has berths of
152m length on each side. Depth
on the N side is 10.7m and on the S
side the depth is 9.8m.
- A Ro-Ro facility lies adjacent to the
S end of the Container Terminal.
Vessels using the facility berth at
the shore end of the jetty on its N
side.
- The Ro-Ro berth is recommended
in preference to the Container
Terminal Berth when there is a NE
swell.
- Fisheries Complex, on the N side of
the bay, has a jetty with a length of
approx 70m and a depth alongside
its head of 2.4m.
There is cargo handling equipment
available.
- There is covered and open storage
for general and container cargoes,
also cold storage facilities available.
- There are 3 phase electrical reefer
plugs.

routine maintenance or minor repairs
can be carried out.

Sporting activities can be arranged with
local sporting organisations.
Private Hauliers
A port pass must be obtained from the
authority for all visitors/officials after a
bona-fide letter or pass from the ship's
agent is provided.
No ship may be fumigated in port except
with written consent of the General
Manager.
Vessels are not permitted to deposit any
refuse in the port or discharge any oil
nor similar substance.
