PMAC Strengthens Caribbean Port Capacity through Digitalization and Shore Power Training

The Port Management Association of the Caribbean (PMAC), in collaboration with the Suriname Port Training Institute (SPTI) and the European Union (EU) successfully hosted a two-day regional training program about Digitalization and Shore Power from 6-7 July in Paramaribo, Suriname.
The training brought together high-potential professionals and mid-level staff from PMAC member ports across the Caribbean to explore two of the most significant developments shaping the future of the maritime industry: digital transformation and the transition to greener port operations. Participants gained practical knowledge through expert presentations, interactive discussions, case studies, and real-world examples from both Caribbean and European ports.
The first day focused on digitalization, covering innovation strategies, digital port platforms, Maritime Single Window systems, Port Community Systems, and emerging technologies that enhance operational efficiency, collaboration, and competitiveness. On the second day, participants examined the fundamentals of shore power, international standards, energy management, and the role of ports in supporting the maritime sector's decarbonization and sustainability objectives.
By investing in the development of emerging port professionals, PMAC continues to support the region's ports in preparing for the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly evolving maritime industry. The program also reinforced PMAC's commitment to regional cooperation, knowledge sharing, and building a resilient, innovative, and sustainable Caribbean port sector.
