Building on a successful high-level engagement at DTF 2026 in Malta, the Port Management Association of the Caribbean (PMAC) and Decarbonising the Future (DTF) have officially signed a landmark partnership agreement on October 20th, 2026.

This strategic alliance is designed to bring world-class international expertise directly to the Caribbean—focusing heavily on port electrification, shore power, and sustainable infrastructure. By tackling core island-specific challenges such as severe grid constraints, fluctuating energy costs, and escalating climate risks, the partnership aims to future-proof the region’s maritime sector.

Key Pillars of the Partnership

The agreement outlines several critical initiatives to foster long-term cooperation and technical capability building across Caribbean ports :

  • DTF Day at PMAC AGM: Introduction of a dedicated platform built around shore power, renewable energy integration, microgrids, green bunkering, and specialized project finance tailored specifically for Caribbean port environments.
  • Global Island States Port Energy Conference: A forward-looking initiative exploring ways to transform island ports into regional clean energy hubs.
  • Media & Knowledge Sharing Framework: DTF will integrate into PMAC’s official media partner network, amplifying Caribbean port experiences, technical insights, and podcasts on global platforms—highlighted by a dedicated Caribbean showcase at DTF 2027 in Malta.
  • Global Gateway Alignment: Strengthening EU-Caribbean cooperation to facilitate sustainable, climate-resilient port infrastructure development.

Paving the Way Forward

Through mutual knowledge exchange, access to a robust international network, and advanced technical insights, PMAC and DTF are laying down a solid foundation for practical and enduring maritime decarbonisation across member ports.

This collaboration marks a decisive step forward in the Caribbean’s transition toward clean, resilient, and future-ready port operations
